Vidya Balan water color study

This actress is one of my favourite.  It's not a great portrait but felt it worth sharing. In addition, here's the link for the making video as well from Youtube

artgraf #2

This is the second attempt with the artgraf pigment block in A5 sketchbook.  How is it?  A making video of the same is posted here making video in youtube

paper mache

This is not a finished work.  Don't know whether I'll be completing it. Just thought to share it in this shape else I might misplace this as well like my other incomplete works!!!

speed sketch

This one is made with a sketch pen, yes it was a bright coloured sketch! It had gone through a filter in instagram and hence the broad dark strokes.  The subject is an actress from a sitcom and I believe it turned out well.

speed sketch

This started as a slow one, but ended up finishing it in a quick pace.  That can be easily read from the detailing that went in to the eyes.  This was a disaster since it failed to capture the likeness of the subject which is the ultimate aim of a portrait study(at least for me at this budding phase).

speed sketch

This is another speed sketch.  Stop reading further and guess who it is.  I'm sure that once I reveal it you'll frown saying,  it doesn't look like her. It's fine... give it a try.

jagathy sreekumar

I tried a speed sketch of a Malayalam actor, it didn't turned out well.  It has the mistakes that I've made which deviated from the likeness of the subject.  So, at least it holds good as a reference in the process of improvement.

tonal values and composition

I've been watching lots of watercolor painting tutorials lately.  Many of them were stressing these two points:
1. Tonal values (get this right and no matter what colour you use, everything ends up well).
2. Composition (what goes where and how much of it is visible in terms of shapes).  Some artists adds something from their memory, some removes the clutter and give more breathing space/environment to their work.
Here's two of such studies.  I was not giving importance to the details in it.

lonely

This picture was posted by one of my friend in instagram. It was really appealing since the light and shadows were making patterns and reflections which we couldn't resist to mark in to the sketchbook.  I don't believe I've done justice to this one. But with my limited watercolor skills I've captured it and here's the result.

watercolor portrait

The intention was to get the values right.  I happened to watch the portrait painting tutorial by Stan Miller in youtube.  It said to stress on getting the values right and not the colours.  This was an experiment keeping that in mind.  I believe I've to improve on the brush strokes.

deepika padukone

Used grid technique to get the outlines correct and plunged into watercolors!!!  Hope this turned out well.

masking tape structure

I've been experimenting lately with different mediums, explored quite a bit to boast and post about it here.  Here's one of the result.  This was made with left over masking tape while making a horse with paper-mache.  It didn't took much time and was a deviation from the intricacies of the main structure.  This deviation was necessary since the image of the main structure(horse) was flashing in conscious and subconscious mind.
