Hariharan sketch

This sketch was done while at office. Most of my colleagues left early as it was thanksgiving.  I had no plans apart from making a few phone calls.  Later I plugged in my ear phones just to escape from the silence of that big glass building(my office :)). Here come the result.....

Unlike my other endeavours this one has limited access to materials. This was done on half of an A4 sheet. I didn't had access to erasers which left me with the option of darkening the areas, which otherwise would've been easier by picking the graphite to get the shading right. Moreover this was a quick one!

In my search for improvement towards watercolor portraits, this comes out as the latest one:) .  How's this?

tone study

This is a tonal study of a painting which I stumbled up on while browsing. How's this?

Russell crowe

I don't think this picture needs a description.  This name just reminds me of the "Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius" from the historical epic Gladiator.

Medium : Charcoal,
Size: 8 1/4" x 11 1/2". 120 GSM.

Anjali menon

This was another attempt in charcoal, she's a film director who has delivered some of the wonderful movies... and even made some mediocre actors stand out.

angelina jolie

Not sure whether I succeeded in bringing the likeness here, but here's the result. Done in my diary with a ball point pen.

portrait-study eyes

This was done in my diary with a fountain pen. This lady is mysterious, her eyes are oblivious to the surroundings(at least to me). It has a depressed look always. Don't know whether I was able to bring out that 'essence' here....

portrait of sis

The original photograph was clicked long back, found it from an old album :), but the portrait made in pencil was clicked just couple of weeks back.

Medium: Pencil 2B.
Size: A5 sheet.
Status: Private collection.

charcoal portraits

This is my first attempt in charcoal. And the subject is not a celebrity, I just found the expression interesting and doodled it. ;)

kid sketch

This cool guy is my neighbor.  I tried to do his portrait, asked him to stay still for just 15 mins. Kids are really good subjects with full of happiness and energy! But its really hard to make them stay still, staring at something doing nothing. This guy was so restless and finally photographed him maintaining the angle I started with. This was the final result. :)

Aparna nair

This was my second attempt in charcoal. I'm finally falling in love with this medium as this gives that extra dark strokes with ease.  The trade-off here is smudging of the medium which is more when compared to pencils.  Hope this can be fixed with a decent fixative! needs to do some more research on that though.

colleague sketch

For me making portraiture becomes easier when I'm in that creative spike where I don't feel any hesitation to make graphite marks on paper! being in sync with the subject also matters to a great extend.  This piece of work came out of urgency, she gave me a deadline of 12 hrs. In fact I wanted to do it better which would've eaten up couple of hours, but sometimes things done in a hurry brings out appreciable results!. What do you say?

temple pond

This was a wet on wet study on one of my favorite cool subject - "ambalakkulam".  As I do for most of my works, was very much concerned about the result. But with that thought in mind it took much longer than expected.  This work was on my easel for long - unfinished.  Just changing the mindset from being result oriented to 'enjoy the process of doing it' helped me signing it in this shape :)

sketch

This is another leaf from my sketchbook. The reference pic is of an unknown girl whom looked interesting. She just swept me off my feet.  Rest of it came out just involuntarily.

Rainy day

This was an experiment, I got the reference pic online and tried to "do it my way". Hope you enjoy looking at it :)

Sujatha watercolor

I've tried this subject thrice before, but failed miserably. This is my fourth attempt, don't know whether I've done justice. I would like to call it version_04 and here's the result!!!. (but the reference picture is of singer Sujatha).

ARR

I was planning to make a portrait of ARR from quite some time. The deadline fell for 6th of Jan since its his birthday that day. This is not the way I've planned exactly, just did a speed sketch sitting @ my desk. How is it?
